Tyre management online

Vacu-Lug, Europe's largest independent retreader, has launched a tyre fleet management system that can merge third-party tyre inspections into a single, web-based reporting format.

VFM is an internet-based service. Inspection details are recorded and captured using a handheld unit automatically uploaded directly to VFM on completion. These details, such as non-inspected vehicles, monthly inspection dates and remaining tread depth for each wheel position on the vehicle, are collated via Vacu-Lug's Inspector Link system.

Vacu-Lug can combine its VFM Inspector Link with other service providers' own fleet inspection systems. Data is imported directly to VFM, where it is merged and fed back to the customer in a single report-format. Customers can access data 24/7 via the secure Vacu-Lug portal.

Cut-price Chinese truck tyres are growing in popularity in Europe, and are particularly popular in Ireland. Vacu-Lug managing director Tim Herlock says: "While it's not for me to comment on the quality of Chinese tyres, what I will say is that to make a cheap tyre you invariably put less strength into the casing."
