UK heavy truck registrations fell in January despite overall growth in the European market.

The latest monthly data from the European Automobile Manufacturers Association reveals UK heavy truck registrations have continued the downward trend that was first registered in September of last year.

In January UK truck registrations were 2,349 compared with 2,756 in the same period a year ago, a 14.8% fall. France at 3,994 registrations was 15.3% up year on year while registrations in Germany increased 5.4% in January to 4,497 compared with the same period a year ago.

The European market (EU) grew 8.9% to 25,753 registrations of trucks over 16-tonnes during January (2016: 23,657%), having posted a decline in December of last year.

The SMMT, which no longer publishes monthly figures for HGV registrations, warned of declining operator confidence in their recent 2017 review.
