Ecstasy and cannabis worth an estimated £2.9m has been seized from a lorry arriving at the Port of Felixstowe.
UK Border Agency (UKBA) officers stopped the truck, which was arriving on a boat from Vlaardingen, Holland, at 4am on 12 October.
Among the eight different consignments the lorry was carrying were two pallets of 14 cardboard boxes listed as 'home decorations'. However, upon inspection, the boxes did not contain ornaments but plywood boxes filled with cannabis and ecstasy.
In total, officers discovered 320,000 ecstasy pills, 600kg of cannabis resin and 30kg of skunk.
Brian Hill, assistant director, Felixstowe, UKBA, says: “UKBA is at the forefront of the war against drugs and yesterday’s seizure is a significant victory, preventing a vast quantity of illegal narcotics from hitting the UK’s streets.”
One person has been arrested, but has subsequently been released without charge. Investigations are continuing.
