Used R450 demonstrator truck wins customers for Scania dealer

Offering a high mileage used truck demonstrator is the best way to show operators the reliability of its vehicles, said Matt Stanton, used sales manager at Scania South East, Purfleet.

Stanton said the firm’s demonstrator - a 64-plate R450 6x2/4 mid-lift tractor unit with Highline cab - has covered 467,000km but not missed a beat. “We tend to choose a high-mileage example showing potential customers how reliable second-hand Scania trucks are, and how comfortable they are to drive, giving them the confidence to buy one,” he said.

“The demonstrator is fitted with our telematics system that allows us to monitor driving styles and the truck’s performance during a trial and gives feedback on matters such fuel consumption.” Scania South East has been running used demonstrator tractor units since 2013, usually keeping each one for between six months and a year.

The Purfleet site has the facilities to carry out modifications to its stock of used vehicles. Stanton said: “We pride ourselves on giving people a personal service and we take care of customers, whether they have one or 20 trucks. It’s about exceeding expectations and supporting our customers.”
