Commercial Motor's online Used Trucks marketplace has had its busiest year to date in 2014, attracting an average of 29,000 potential buyers each month.
Almost 80% of visitors came from the UK, but almost every country in the world was also represented. Traffic was particularly high from the African countries of Tanzania, Kenya and Zambia, reflecting the increasing importance of the export market to Used Trucks. We also trust that our visitors from the island nation of Vanuatu found exactly what they were looking for.
With up to 4,500 listings advertised on the website at any one time, it is inevitable that some attracted greater interest than others. The most viewed across the course of the year was a "very tidy" Scania 420 2004 Euro-4 tipper (pictured), being offered by a private seller in Lancashire. Close behind it was another Scania tipper from a private seller, this time a "good sound" P-Series from 2008.
This demand was reflected in the search terms that our buyers tapped into the site, with Scania being the most searched-for manufacturer for the third year running. In second place was Volvo and then, surprisingly, retired British marque Foden in third.
We have always found that buyers are more likely to search for body types than particular makes of truck, and 'tipper', 'crane', and hookloader' all featured in the top 10 search terms.
Plenty of work has taken place behind the scenes this year to improve the Used Trucks experience for both buyers and sellers. The 'post an advert' process for self-serve customers has been streamlined, search results have been made more relevant, and loading times on the website have come down considerably.
