Well-known retread tyre supplier Vaculug has been operating since 1950. The company was bought by Harjeev Singh Kandhari’s Zenises Group in 2018 and sustainability has gained heightened importance since the purchase.

“We need to be tackling climate change and making use of things we’ve already got and the perfect way to do that is through retreading,” Megan Campion, marketing manager for Vaculug says. “You take an old casing and you retread it and it goes back out onto the road as a new tyre.”

The company has focused on its processes and operations in the factory to make these more sustainable and work better.

Vaculug tends to focus on grade one and two casings, usually from premium tyre manufacturers. “We don’t tend to go for the cheaper ones because they don’t produce a high enough quality product,” says Campion. This way it is possible to extend tyre life by two or three times, depending on the quality of the casing. Vaculug is in the Green Zone on stand R43.
