Viper Guard unveils universal trailer lock

Operators are investing in security rather than in trucks, according to manufacturer Viper Guard. The truck security firm has unveiled its 'universal trailer lock' and predicts big sales for the UK-manufactured product.

Viper Guard scrapped plans for a Continental manufacturer to make the lock owing to the weakening pound. Instead it will be designed and made by Birmingham-based Illston and Robson, which already produces Viper Guard's coupling lock.

Debbie Jones, general manager at Viper Guard, says: "We think it's going to be a big seller. People aren't spending as much on trucks now, but instead spending money on security." She adds that the lock can be used with almost any trailer.

Channel Tunnel traffic level hit by September fire

Channel Tunnel operator Eurotunnel recorded a sharp fall in truck shuttle traffic in the last quarter of 2008 after the tunnel fire in September reduced capacity by 50%. Truck shuttle traffic fell by 45% in the last three months of 2008 and 11% in the year as a whole. Camden hikes up PCN costs

Operators who receive penalty charge notices (PCNs) in the London Borough of Camden will see their annual PCN bill shoot up following the council's sudden decision to impose a 1.3% charge for all PCNs paid via credit cards. Wincanton opens records management storage facility

Wincanton Records Management has opened a secure records storage facility in Scotland.
