The UK's first Volvo FH16-700 to be equipped with a hydraulically-steered centre axle has hit the road with bulk operator H Curtis & Sons, based near Pensford, Bristol.

The FH16-700, shown here in the firm's distinctive red livery, was supplied by Wales and West Truck and Bus. It will work with end-tip or walking-floor trailers and will be required to negotiate a variety of road types from unmade farm tracks to motorways.

Driver Derek Curtis, a partner in H Curtis & Sons, says: "The torque of this new Volvo, with the latest I-Shift automated gearbox and steered centre axle, has really surprised me. It handles perfectly whether it's in a farmyard or on a motorway."
