S & T Buckley Livestock has replaced an older model from a rival manufacturer with a new Volvo FH 540 8x2 rear steer tridem. Supplied by Gerard Sheehan, sales executive at McCarthy Commercials, the rigid is fitted with Pezzaioili livestock bodywork.

Mike Flynn, the Volvo FH’s new driver said: “I’ve always been a Volvo man at heart, and this truck reminds me why. Everything from the driving experience to the small comforts is exactly what you’d want. It’s clear that Volvo understands what drivers need, and it shows in the build and the support you receive.

“When we were changing over from our previous supplier, Volvo gave us the exact configuration we wanted, and the McCarthy Commercials team were fantastic in making it happen. Everything we needed, they were able to deliver, and the peace of mind from the repair and maintenance contract means we can focus on the job without worrying about big bills if something goes wrong."

S & T Buckley Livestock opted for a Volvo gold repair and maintenance contract to cover the vehicle during its time with the company. It’s expected to work five days a week covering around 80,000km annually.

The FH is equipped with a 540hp Euro 6 compliant engine with maximum torque of 2,600Nm. The Globetrotter cab was specified with the Drive++ package which adds leather upholstery, dual arm rests on both seats and an adjustable steering wheel with neck tilt. The one person Living package includes a 33-litre fridge/freezer and extra storage.

The truck has front and rear air suspension to benefit the driver and livestock. Externally, the vehicle has LED headlights which automatically adjust based on light conditions to offer optimal visibility.

Flynn said: “The comfort in this truck is top class – it is an absolute pleasure to drive. Having those creature comforts onboard makes a huge difference. In every aspect that matters to a driver, this truck delivers.”
