Ritchies Training Centre, Glasgow has taken delivery of eight new Volvo FL 4x2 rigids that will conduct HGV Class C driver training and driving tests.

The 12-tonners, from the Glasgow West dealerpoint of Volvo Truck and Bus North & Scotland, feature 18-foot box bodies by PMH Coachbuilders, include I-Sync automated manual transmissions as well as D5K engines that produce 240hp.

They are only expected to average about 300 miles a week and come with four-year Gold Service Contracts from Volvo. All operate with five-tonne loads, in this case water-filled IBCs.

Stephen Ritchie, director at Ritchies Training Centre said: “We must provide consistency for our candidates, so the eight identical Volvo FLs tick all the boxes.

“Back in 1990 we bought a group of five FL6 tractor units, for HGV Class One training. These trucks were eventually replaced by some FM day cab tractor units. We still use a 28-year-old Volvo FL6 4x2 rigid as a lorry mounted-crane, training vehicle.”
