Volvo Trucks UK and Ireland has appointed the company’s first head of e-mobility. Dr Amy Stokes takes up the new position after spending 18 months as group energy market manager at Volkswagen Group UK. At VW, Dr Stokes was responsible for the development of new energy market opportunities.

Previously, she worked at E.ON for more than 12 years, having joined a graduate scheme after completing a PhD in Chemistry at Warwick University. Her final role for E.ON was residential electric vehicle charging business lead, centred on building a sustainable, customer-focussed residential charging business in the UK.

“I love everything to do with e-mobility and the opportunity to join Volvo Trucks was one I simply couldn’t turn down”, says Dr Stokes, “When people talk about electric trucks, a lot of the challenges we need to overcome are simply around doing things differently – and it’s not necessarily worse. In fact, in so many areas electric trucks offer huge advantages, for the driver, the operator, other road users and of course the environment. My focus is going to be on taking customers by the hand and supporting them on this journey.”

Dr Stokes will cover the whole of the Volvo trucks electric vehicle portfolio for the UK and Ireland. The order books for the FH, FM and FMX electric models opened a few weeks ago, with production beginning next year. These models will join the existing FL and FE electric models. DHL Supply Chain is already operating an FL electric.
