Volvo Trucks dealer Hartshorne Motor Services has opened a £4m dealership in Birmingham.
Located on a 2-acre site off Chester Road in Erdington, it has replaced the dealer group’s depot two miles down the road on the Gravelly Industrial Park. Halesowen-based A&H Construction and Development was sub-contracted to construct the building and the project was completed in eight months.
A total of 20 staff have transferred from the old site and 15 new jobs have been created. Group parts manager and Hartshorne Group MD Martin Cronin said: "We are very proud to have enjoyed a long association with our customers in Birmingham, who rightly expect a fast and efficient service.
“Our new depot is perfectly located and has been designed from scratch, in order to deliver maximum vehicle uptime." It includes 10 work bays and contains separate service lanes, an ATF and a dedicated tachograph bay that Hartshorne believes will speed up response times for repairs and calibrations.
It is fitted with energy saving equipment, holds £1m worth of Volvo parts and contains £500,000 of new tooling and equipment. At the front of the two level office block is a reception area that features driver waiting facilities. Cronin said: “The site is geared towards excellence in customer service and speed of turnaround.”
