Volvo Trucks to introduce Alcolock at CV show

Volvo Trucks is hoping to have a working Alcolock on its stand at this year's CV Show. The unit, which can be factory fitted or retrofitted to a truck, prevents a driver from starting the engine when he is under the influence.

It is designed for companies who operate a zero-tolerance to alcohol policy, and is calibrated to 20mg of alcohol per 100ml of blood. The UK legal limit is 80mg per 100ml.

Ipswich to Ostend ferry to resume

The roll-on RO-RO ferry link between Ipswich and Ostend is about to be resumed, says Associated British Ports (ABP). The service, which was abruptly axed by Ferryways last June, will be restored by Dart Line, part of the Cobelfret group ABP says a schedule will be released soon. The closure of the service, shortly after Ferryways was acquired by Cobelfret, had a big knock-on effect at the Ipswich port.

Capel Rail Services loses appeal

Capel Rail Services has lost its appeal against the rejection of its request for a 12-vehicle/two-trailer licence based in Tonbridge. South Eastern Deputy Traffic Commissioner Christopher Heaps rejected the bid because vehicles had been operated after the refusal of an interim licence. MD Nigel Summers had bought the assets and goodwill of Capel Fencing, Capel Fencing Holdings and Capel Rail. He had believed that the Capel Fencing O-licence had been included in the assets.
