Drinks wholesaler Waverley TBS is to axe a number of logistics jobs as part of a restructure that includes several depot closures.

The company has entered a consultation period with 200 lorry drivers, warehouse workers and telesales employees over plans to consolidate logistics operations. Its truck fleet will also be reduced.

It has been proposed the Newbury, Berkshire and Park Royal, London sites, which collectively employ 87 people, will close outright. The firm also plans to close nine other depots and replace them with 10 transit points, which will employ fewer staff.

Waverley TBS MD Jonathan Townsend says: "It is well documented that the drinks sector continues to face some considerable challenges and our business has to evolve to remain sustainable and competitive."

The consultation period is expected to finish by the end of March.
