Welch’s Transport has relocated into a multi-million-pound, purpose-built 9-acre facility in Duxford, Cambridgeshire from its home of 60 years in Stapleford.
Sales and marketing manager Mike Bentham told CM that the move would enable the family-run business to expand the range and quality of services it offers customers, as well as creating more warehousing space and improved loading and unloading facilities. It would also ensure a strong future legacy by taking Welch’s from the third generation of the family to the fourth in the next 10 years.
The group’s Renault Trucks dealership and service centre WTL Truck Centres (Cambridge), which will benefit from improved workshop facilities, have also relocated to the Duxford site.
Palletline member Welch’s Transport is celebrating 81 years in operation this year.
The Frieght Operator Recognition Scheme (Fors) silver member plans to work towards achieving its gold status this year and has committed to retrofitting its 80-strong fleet with safety equipment to achieve this.
The company will be holding an open day at the new Duxford site on 24 January for aspiring HGV drivers to join its new apprenticeship scheme.
