Welsh haulier takes on world's first operational Scania R730

Wright Self Drive, the Welshpool, Wales-based company has become the world's first operator to take delivery of a Scania R730.

The R730 LA6x2MNA trailing-axle model, which comes equipped with the new Scania Opticruise gear-selection system and Scania Driver Support, was delivered by West Pennine Trucks.

Gary Wright, director of Wright Self Drive, says: "We are involved in a variety of transport operations, much of which is carried out on a sub-contract basis for T Alun Jones, and includes continental fridge work, low-loaders and forestry.

"Power, performance and traction are therefore extremely important to us, hence our decision to opt for the R730 with a 6x2 wheelplan."

Munro Midlands loses new O-licence bid

Munro Midlands has lost its bid to secure an O-licence after an appeal judge ruled there had been a lack of "clear water" between it and revoked haulier Munro and Sons. Upper Tribunal Judge Hugh Carlisle QC upheld the decision of Traffic Commissioner for Scotland Joan Aitken, which was made at a public inquiry in July last year, to refuse an application for six vehicles and six trailers from Roderick and Claire Munro, bosses of Munro Midlands in Alness, Ross-shire.
