West Sussex County Council has set up a map of lorry advisory routes on its website to help trucks avoid the narrow streets in the county.

The routes cover dual carriageways and wide single-carriageway roads in West Sussex.

Derek Wittington, the council's cabinet member for strategic planning and transport, says the Road Haulage Association has been helping the council develop the advisory routes. "It keeps unsuitable vehicles away from communities and roads that cannot really cope with them," he adds.

Drivers can either download a map of the routes or phone 01243 642105 and quote Lorry Route Map to request a hard copy.
