West Yorkshire Skip Hire loses vehicle for a month

West Yorkshire Skip Hire has lost one of its vehicles for a month after a continuing record of prohibitions and failing to fully comply with under-takings to have vehicles' roller brakes tested. It was heard that since the Elland-based firm's last public inquiry in June 2006, delayed prohibitions had been issued in September 2006 and April and May 2007.

For the company, Gary Hodgson said a further prohibition had been issued in August by the police following the loss of a pair of rear wheels, which collided with a car. Director Ian Moore said some roller brake tests had been missed as they had not always been able to book a vehicle in at the garage on the day they wanted. He promised another garage would be used in such circumstances.

North Eastern deputy traffic commissioner Mark Hinchliffe said it seemed an extraordinary lapse not to comply with the roller brake test undertaking for nearly 12 months. That sort of failing would lead to the loss of the company's licence in the future, but in this case he took account of the fact that all other undertakings had been complied with.
