Building materials supplier Lafarge has taken delivery of 12 new Daf CF tractors to bolster its concrete mixer fleet. One 6x4 CF and 11 8x4 chassis will join Lafarge’s Readymix division pulling McPhee mixer units on jobs across the UK. Each of the new units has also been fitted with a safety camera system to improve nearside visibility, as well as a cyclist and pedestrian alert system.

Diamond H Transport has received its first ever Volvo truck, with a new FH 500 8x4 tractor (right). Plated to 70 tonnes GCW, the heavy haulage Volvo will be used for heavy lifting after it was fitted with a Fassi F1500XP crane. With a lifting capacity of up to 20 tonnes, and a two tonne capacity at its full reach of 27 metres, Diamond’s new FH is one of just three such vehicles currently in operation in the UK.

Sixteen Daf XF 105s have been added to the 1,500-strong fleet of Gist, as the company expands their refrigeration network in Scotland. The new 460hp units have been specified with a 12-speed AS-Tronic gearbox, and Super Space cabs for long distance European haulage.

Kent tipper operator Ardula has added two MAN TGS units to its 21-strong fleet. The 400hp 8x4 and 360hp 6x4 tippers will be used to clear sand, gravel and topsoil and provide ballast, shingle and natural and recycled aggregates to its customers. Both vehicles have been equipped with hydraulic tailboards, Thompson Loadmaster bodies and Ebro tipping gear.

A hybrid Mercedes-Benz Atego has begun operations to Waitrose stores in central London after Lenham Storage took to running the vehicle to help reduce its urban carbon emissions. Powered by a 44kW (60hp) electric motor, and a 218hp 4.8-litre engine, the Atego BluTec Hybrid is also fitted with a curved roof Bevan Group body. Lenham Storage plan to run the Atego Hybrid for up to seven years, during which time they will monitor their fuel and servicing costs as well as the vehicle’s battery life.

Paper and plastic packaging material suppliers DS Smith have chosen 17 new Mercedes-Benz Actros MegaSpace trucks as the first vehicles to wear the company’s new livery. Purchased on a three-year contract hire agreement with Gullivers Truck Hire, the new units are expected to cover around 210,000km per year delivering recycled packing products and removing waste cardboard from a number of supermarkets.

South Gloucestershire Council has become the UK’s first owner of a Volvo FMX snowplough. Eight 6x4 FMX and three 4x4 FMX gritters will help maintain 1,500km of roads in the region, and have been fitted with 330hp engines, ECON spreading bodies and Volvo Powertronic gearboxes.

FedEX Express has become the first company to test a new prototype zero-emissions van from Nissan. The electric NV200 will be evaluated by the express delivery company over a two month period while on operations in London. Nissan corporate vice president Hideto Murakami, says: “FedEx Express' feedback from the evaluation process will help us tailor a future battery-powered light commercial Nissan vehicle that meets customer needs.”

Braintree-based Motor Parts Direct has taken delivery of 25 of Citroën’s new Euro-5 Stop & Start Nemo van. The LX spec vehicles can carry up to 660kg of payload and are expected to cover around 150,000 miles during their five year life with the company.
