Wincanton will be paid a final instalment of £2.25m by food group Uniq to settle a long-running logistics dispute.

In 2001, Wincanton demerged from its then parent company Uniq (formerly Unigate) and listed on the London Stock Exchange. Following this, the companies signed a long-term contract for Wincanton to manage the Gloucester automated chilled warehouse for the storage of St Ivel food products for Uniq. However, Uniq exited the agreement in 2007, which Wincanton contested.

A Wincanton spokeswoman tells Roadtransport.com: "Wincanton issued proceedings more than four years ago for the recovery of sums due for the warehouse services it had provided. St Ivel disputed the calculation of those charges. There followed four years of litigation and mediation proceedings, with St Ivel being forced, at several successive court hearings, to pay us instalments of the sum due.

"The £2.25m is the last of those instalments and closes the matter, once and for all," she adds.
