Wincanton has won a five-year contract to manage Comet's new South-Eastern distribution centre. The logistics giant will deliver products to Comet stores in the South-East from the 380,000ft2 distribution centre in Harlow, Essex, and manage the electrical retailer's home delivery service.

Wincanton will also recover end-of-life electrical stock from customers' homes and transfer it for reuse or recycling at its Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) facility in Billingham, Teesside. Comet's old site – also run by Wincanton – was a mile away from the new facility and 90,000ft2 smaller.

Doug Bingham, Comet project manager, says: "We're very excited to have this new centre up and running in Harlow. "It's down to incredible teamwork between Comet and Wincanton that we have the site operational after just a year under construction."
