Yodel has become the first parcel company to join the International Cyber Security Protection Alliance (ICSPA) in a bid to sharpen security in the parcel carrier market.

The parcel giant says because it handles mass volumes of goods every day, it is keen to help crack down on cybercriminals who could be shipping unlawful goods, or cheating consumers out of money.

ICSPA is a global not-for-profit organisation which works to identify corruption in online retailing, and boost protection against cybercrime.

Jonathan Smith, Yodel chief executive, says: "As one of the UK's leading delivery companes, handling sensitive packages and crucial data, Yodel is well aware of the growing threat posed by criminals operating online.

"By working together with stakeholders on a global basis, the organisation is in a position to make a real difference and help clamp down on cybercrime."

Other ICSPA members include McAfee and Shop Direct Group.
