2017 Scania R450 Highline 6x2 - Used Truck Deal of the Day

With its light bars and alloy wheels, this Scania R450 Highline 6x2 tag certainly looked the part at the Convoy in the Park truck show last weekend.

The two-year-old ex-WS Transportation truck has been given a respray, and treated to alloy wheels, six new tyres, roof beacons and both a Kelsa LoBar and HiBar.

Commenting on the 17-plate R-series, which has covered just 260,000km, Asset Alliance sales manager Adrian Beese said: “We have owned it from new, so know the truck. It has been Scania maintained and comes with a three-month warranty.”

It is one of a batch of similar spec trucks, and while this one is finished in a fetching grey metallic paint, they can be sprayed in whatever colour the customer requires. It’s on sale for £65,000.

Dennis Eagles acquired for new waste contract

Dennis Eagle

Biffa has opted for a brand new fleet of 43 280hp 26-tonne Dennis Eagle refuse collection vehicles for a seven-year waste and recycling contract with East Sussex Joint Waste Partnership.

All are 6x2 narrow (2.6m wide) rear-steer Elite Chassis with Olympus 19 bodies and Terberg OmniDEL bin lifts. They will operate out of three depots; Hastings, Rother and Wealden.

David Maidman, Biffa business director said: “We had a very specific requirement in the contract for narrow vehicles and the Dennis Eagle Elites came out on top. But we also have a very long and successful trading relationship with the company which made working with them an easy decision.”

Andy Graves, product marketing manager for Dennis Eagle, said: “We’re the only manufacturer on the market to offer narrow gauge trucks, which is a great help for operators, like Biffa, who work in tight city streets.”

The new contract sees changes to the weekly recycling collections meaning that plastic, cans, paper and card are collected in the same container as glass, providing the same mix of commingled dry recycling across the county.

The new vehicles will all be maintained in-house, but the waste disposal firm claimed that it’s planning to use the DennisConnect telematics system more to increase operational efficiency.
