Beelsby Contractors adds Scania and Fruehauf tipping trailer combo to fleet

Grimsby-based Beelsby Contractors has added two Scania R450 tractor units with Fruehauf tipping trailers to its fleet, improving the efficiency of its operations at Immingham Docks.

The two Stepframe Smoothsider tippers and Scania R450 tractors are part of the company’s 20-strong fleet that transport seed, gypsum and grain to and from the docks.

“The new tippers are doing a lot of work at the docks, the fleet operating between 30 to 40 loads per day with many being short runs. These new tippers can easily manage that workload because they are robust and well-built,” said Beelsby Contractors partner Joe Fenwick.

“We have had other trailers before that are unstable on uneven ground. There is no such problem with our Fruehauf tippers. They’re extremely sturdy solid units just perfect for the job.”

The new tippers will each cover more than 100,000km per year, delivering and collecting from agricultural customers and carrying loads to and from the docks.

Beelsby Contractors has been purchasing Fruehauf trailers for more than two decades, with a new unit arriving every few years. This time, the new tippers were fitted with automatic Red 3001 Shurco sheeting system, an air-operated tail-gate and a Barry Napper weigher with in-cab display.

“We do a lot of work on the docks so the air back doors and automatic sheets are a huge advantage because it means the drivers don’t have to get out of the cabs. It makes our work much more efficient,” Fenwick explained.
