Caledonian Truck and Van supplies an Actros 2551 tractor unit to DR MacLeod

Hebridean haulier DR MacLeod has taken delivery of its first new Mercedes-Benz - an Actros 2551 tractor unit - supplied by the Aberdeen branch of Caledonian Truck and Van.

The Actros has a GigaSpace cab, PowerShift 3 automated gearbox and 12.8 litre Mercedes-Benz OM 471 LA straight-six engine that produces 510hp. It is now undertaking regular runs to the Midlands and south of England, transporting heavy engineering products.

DR MacLeod began trading in Stornoway in 1981 with a single vehicle and now runs 55 trucks and 90 trailers. Before ordering the Actros the haulier trialled a demonstrator for a week, which compared favourably with other trucks in its mixed fleet.
