Where do you work?
At the Stoke-on-Trent branch.
What time does your day usually begin?
Normally at 7.45am. The calls start and continue for most of the day. I try to leave at 6pm.
What type of customers do you normally deal with during a working day?
I mainly deal with the retail sector, from one-man haulier operations and own-account fleets of varying sizes, to large operators. I also supply Iveco vehicles into some big contract hire and rental companies.
How much of your day is spent in the office/workshop and how much on the road?
Sales is a people business and the more customer contact I have, the better. In an ideal world, I’d spend every working hour on the road visiting operators, but l have to balance this with following protocol and ensuring paperwork is correctly completed.
How long have you been with the business?
I started in 1983 as an apprentice mechanic. After roles in aftersales, I moved into truck sales 12 years ago.
What types of vehicles are selling at the moment and where do you see the growth this year?
My focus is on selling everything from 7.5-tonne Iveco Eurocargos through multi-wheelers to Stralis XP and NP tractor units. I see most growth in the rigid market up to 26 tonnes - we deal with a lot of pallet network fleets, and they have plenty of trunking vehicles, but it’s the urban distribution side that needs updating. I’m also expecting strong interest in the new Stralis X-Way range.
