Electric LDVs give Tesco a little extra help

Tesco has acquired 30 LDV EV80 electric vans for its home delivery service as part of its pledge to be carbon neutral by 2035. The 56kW EV80 is claimed to have a 120 mile range from a high-capacity lithium battery which can be fully charged in under 90 minutes.

The EV80 drives through the Digital Intelligent CVT (continuously variable transmission) system which adjusts the motor’s output according to operating conditions. The refrigerated bodies are chilled by Thermo King electric units. The vans are supplied fully-liveried and come with a standard five-year R&M package.

Tesco joins operators including Royal Mail, IKEA and Milk & More in adopting the Chinese-owned SAIC Maxus brand, distributed in European RHD markets by the Dublin-based Harris Group.

Harris general manager Mark Barrett said: “It’s great to be part of Tesco’s greener motoring journey and it’s fantastic to see the EV80 decked out in Tesco livery. With a new fleet of EV80s at Tesco’s disposal, customers can lower their carbon footprint while enjoying the convenience of home delivery. Our electric vehicles are easily customised, making them the right fit for any business looking to improve their environmental credentials. Our range of EV vehicles offer exceptional battery range, modern specifications and are accessible to businesses big or small through our affordable commercial options.”
