TruckForce opens Southampton site

Goodyear Tyres’ 24-hour commercial support network, TruckForce, has opened a new base of operations in Southampton.

The Southampton site is the first new TruckForce location since 2006, adding to the group’s 12 existing service hubs throughout the UK and acting as a central location for approved dealers operating on the South coast

The new hub will see technicians provide support for hazardous and dangerous goods carriers including Hoyer and Suttons, critical-time operators such as DPD and vehicle-movers such as ECM and BCA.

Servicing vehicles in the Southampton, Portsmouth, Andover and Salisbury areas, the new operation will open with six vans and technicians, with plans to expand this department in the coming months. By 2019, the service will have extended to also cover Brighton, Bournemouth and Poole.

Chris Suttle, TruckForce regional manager, said: “TruckForce’s success hinges on having the right people and providing the best service and assets for our customers. Our new location in Southampton is an exciting embodiment of the success and growth that we have achieved to date, and we are immensely proud of the journey that we have been on so far.”

The opening of the Southampton Hub comes after TruckForce performance figures showed a record customer response time and job completion time in 2017, saving an accumulative total of 2,169 hours throughout the year.

TruckForce’s network is made up of a combination of Goodyear Dunlop equity-owned hubs and independent service.

MV Commercial takes on former TOM Vehicle Rental site in Airdrie

MV Commercial has opened an eight-acre facility in Airdrie, its fourth site in the UK, in a move that chief executive Tom O’Rourke said showed the “drive and determination to dramatically expand the business into new arenas”.

The site was formerly a home to failed rental firm TOM Vehicle Rental and MV describes it as a substantial upgrade to its sales, hire, leasing, finance, maintenance, engineering and painting facilities, now all under one roof.

O’Rourke said: “This is an exciting new chapter in our business. This is the company’s largest-ever investment in property and shows our drive and determination to dramatically expand the business into new arenas. The Airdrie site is tailor-made for efficiency when it comes to handling sales, leasing and maintenance support and provides us with the perfect foundation for our future growth plans.”

It includes 90,000sq ft of internal work space with multiple workshops featuring 36 commercial vehicle ramps, HGV inspection pits, a paint and blast facility with eight booths, onsite ATF test lanes, tacho bay and class 7 MoT testing facilities.

The Airdrie facility will operate in addition to MV Commercial’s existing three depots across the UK - Luton, Haydock and Livingston - and becomes the new home to the majority of the company’s 120-strong team.

Additionally, the site has 6.3 acres of vehicle storage space for MV Commercial’s fleet of ‘Ready to Go’ trucks for immediate hire, lease, or rent-to-buy.

Steven Cairns, group managing director at MV Commercial, added: “As part of our ambitious development strategy to offer our full range of services under one roof, this new site will guarantee maximum efficiency, delivering cost-effective solutions for our customers and further extending MV Commercial’s specialist vehicle provision capabilities.”
