Imperial Commercials opens 2.2-acre Swindon service and parts facility

Daf Trucks dealer group Imperial Commercials has opened its new purpose-built service and parts facility in Swindon.

The new 2.2-acre freehold site - located at Dorcan on the A149 just off junction 15 of the M4 - replaces Imperial’s existing site at the Britannia Trade Park in the Wiltshire town.

All existing staff will relocate to the new facility and the company is recruiting for extra HGV technicians.

The site includes nine 20-metre truck workshop bays, tachograph centre, ATF lane, pet reg bay and additional MoT lanes for light commercial vehicles.

There is also a parts storage area and trade counter, parking space for trucks and trailers, steam wash bay, new office suite and open plan customer areas.

The move represents a £2.74m investment by Imperial Commercials as its Daf trucks presence in the region grows.
A total of six Daf dealerships now service the Bristol and surrounding region under the Imperial Commercials franchise.

David Lewis, regional director at Imperial Commercials, said the new location offers vastly improved and a more strategic, easy-access location for operators in the area.

He added: “We enjoyed much success at our Britannia Trading Park location, but our new premises will see a significant service uplift for our customers - not least because of Dorcan’s proximity to the M4 motorway just two miles from junction 15.

“Furthermore, for a service and parts outlet, our new on-site facilities provide a one stop solution for truck operators, with equipment and services more associated with our larger locations.

“Our ATF lane, and our pet reg and tacho capabilities significantly boost our service offering.”

Six of the best rewarded at MAN dealer awards

The MAN network in the UK has been celebrating its successes at the company’s annual Dealer of the Year Awards event.

Trophies were presented during the event held at the Powerscourt Hotel Dublin, recognising the success of small, medium and large dealers throughout the UK.

The winners were AN Richards of Llangollen (small), Imperial Commercials of Peterborough (medium) and DSV Commercials of Immingham (large).

They will receive £10,000 each to invest in their businesses.

Runners-up RK Trucks Belfast (small), MTB Swindon (medium) and MTB Manchester will also receive £5,000 each.

Andy Turner, MAN’s head of UK network development, said:  “The success of these six dealers is a testament to the dynamic and innovative performance of their management and the teams they have around them.

“Each operation has consistently achieved very high standards in meeting MAN’s strenuous UK service levels and those performances have formed the solid base on which these hard-fought awards are judged.”

AN Richards company secretary Johanna Cooke said: “We are a family-run firm, AN Richards was founded by my grandfather.

“For the last seven years we have been building our hire fleet and we are now at 72 vehicles.”

According to Steve Affleck, regional director of Imperial Commercials (Peterborough), the dealer has invested heavily in its staff, facilities and equipment in recent years to improve customer service levels.

He added “The £10,000 will be invested in the refurbishment of our parts & service reception.

“The total project is estimated at £30,000 and will provide an improved environment for customers and colleagues alike.”

Chris Marshall, director of DSV Commercials, Immingham, concluded: “We are looking to invest the cash in a new tachograph calibration facility. This will increase the number of services we can offer and expand the business.”
