Sales team reshuffle at DAF
It’s all change at the top of the DAF Trucks sales operation as long-serving retail sales director Nigel Hunt (pictured) hands over the reins to Gareth Halliwell.
James Stewart takes over from Ian Grant as fleet sales director. Grant, meanwhile becomes fleet aftersales director.
The outgoing 61-year-old Hunt is retiring from DAF after 36 years but will continue in the industry as a consultant. His career began when he joined the Leyland DAF sales engineering department in 1983, where the skills acquired in finding innovative solutions to operators’ requirements set him on the path to directorship, and many of his solutions form the foundation of DAF’s current sales strategy.
Fuel economy from Volvo FH 540 Globetrotter impresses
G Headley Transport is impressed with the fuel economy of its new I-Shift Dual Clutch-equipped FH 540 6x2 tag-axle Globetrotter XL tractor unit.
Commenting on the truck, which was supplied by Thomas Hardie Commercials, Graeme Headley, joint MD of G Headley Transport, said: “It’s early days yet, but the fuel consumption figures are already 1.2mpg better than my previous 16-litre Volvo, and the figure should improve as the engine beds in.
“We have four Volvo trucks in our fleet of five vehicles and I’ve dealt with Thomas Hardie Commercials for years. I’ve driven Volvos all my life and see no reason to change. I really wanted to try the I-Shift Dual Clutch gearbox, which is a superb system. The gear changes are seamless and make the engine feel like a 600hp unit.”
The customised truck features a Trux bull-bar, Kelsa air lines frame, Alcoa Dura-Bright alloy wheels and polished ‘fuel tank’ type chassis side skirts from Burrow Fabrications. Colour-coded paintwork by Wykes Commercials and brushed artwork by Kieran Davies are the finishing touches to this eye-catching truck.
