Lorry driver tips off police about £16m drugs haul

A lorry driver has helped police seize 40 kilos of suspected heroin, with a street value of around £16m, after he became suspicious about a load he was transporting.

Hertfordshire Police said the driver called them out to his lorry in Works Road, Letchworth, at 1pm on Thursday 14 November. The vehicle had stopped earlier in the day in east London.

Searches of the LGV discovered the vast stash of drugs and police are now appealing for witnesses.

Detective superintendent Peter Fulham said: “A significant quantity of drugs has been removed from criminal circulation and I have a team of officers investigating who is responsible for their importation and intended distribution.”
