Morrisons enters the home delivery market

Morrisons is the latest supermarket to venture into home deliveries, via its £70m purchase of e-commerce retailer Kiddicare.

The acquisition comprises a new freehold DC in Peterborough, as well as 160,000ft2 of warehouse, retail and office space.

The baby products retailer, which generated sales of £37.5m last year, will continue to trade separately as, keeping DPD and Interlink Express as delivery partners, understands.

Morrisons says it intends to build its online non-foods business and launch its own first products in 2012.

Dalton Philips, Morrisons chief executive, says: "This acquisition brings not only a respected, successful and fast-growing specialist retailer into the Morrisons group, but also a robust, scalable and highly advanced technology platform around which we can begin to build our e-commerce offer."
