What Alapont Did Next

Interesting to see that Alapont has announced his departure from Federal Mogul as of 31st March, giving just under three week's notice. Granted, he's 60, but he's also, we hear, Icahn's main man for trucks. Opinions vary as to the success of his tenure at Iveco, but maybe Icahn is getting ready to parachute some new blood into his truck ops.

Navistar's Spiral of Despair - the Bomb Drops

Mutterings about the place today reach the WTB that suggest that the EPA has advised Navistar that it is to be fined for shipping many thousands of back-dated engines during the transition from EPA 2007 to EPA 2010.Nothing further yet, and no response from Navistar despite our request for clarification but more, no doubt, anon.Read the Notice of Violation here.

Icahn Bids for Scrap Merchant

Following the mutterings that Icahn had sold out his Navistar position on the 15th November - in a report yet to be verified - here is news that the man's thirst for scrap metal remains unassuaged.And, for good measure, CI is still after merging Oshkosh and Navistar, according to this from CNBC. All very confusing.

Commercial Vehicle Net Orders Stronger than Expected in October

North America heavy GVW Class 8 commercial vehicle preliminary net orders for October surprised on the upside, improving both month over month and year over year, as reported by ACT Research Co., LLC (ACT). The final numbers, which will be released mid-November, will approach 27,700 units for heavy duty Class 8 trucks and 13,300 for medium Classes 5-7 vehicles. The preliminary net order numbers are typically accurate to within 5% of actual.
