Cummins Westport in China Bus Deal

Cummins Westport Inc. has announced that Beijing Public Transport Holdings, Ltd. has ordered 5.9 litre six cylinder250 B Gas Plus engines to power Beijing Jinghua Coach Co. buses. Rated at 230 bhp and running on CNG, these buses will be additional to the current fleet of CNG-powered buses ordered for next year's 2008 Beijing Summer Olympic Games.

Hino Adds to Arkansas Plant

News here about Hino's plans to invest $70 million to add equipment to its Marion, AK plant. Rumours are also currently doing the rounds suggesting that the Japanese OEM - of which Toyota owns a controlling interest - may be about to announce the development of a plant in Central America, with Colombia looking to be the most likely site.

MAN Bags 1000 Unit Russian Order

MAN has won an order for 1000 TGA heavy trucks from a Russian leasing organisation.A contract has been signed by the Russian JSC TransKreditBank and MAN's sales subsidiary MAN Avtomobili Rossiya, which will see 800 MAN TGA 18.390 and MAN TGA 18.480 4x2 BLS with an LX cab and 200 XLX cabbed variants being delivered.The vehicles will be leased by the JSC TransKreditBank to large Russian transport companies like Sovtransauto, Navigator, D-Trans and further members of the Association of International Road Carriers (ASMAP), and are likely to be used both for long haul national and internationa

Volvo Divests US Truckstop Interest

Volvo Trucks North America (VTNA) has sold its 26.88 per cent holding in the Petro TruckStop chain to TravelCenters of America and Hospitality Properties Trust for $46.3 million.The reason given for this move is the improvement in VTNA's own network: "Our dealers have truly embraced Volvo's commitment to world-class service, and together we have made significant investments to dramatically expand and enhance our network," said Peter Karlsten, president and CEO of Volvo Trucks North America.

Tata Looking at South African Production Options

Interesting report here concerning Tata's thinking as to a production facility in South Africa. Much would seem to hinge on the outcome of a review of the South African Motor Industry Development Programme (MIDP), which incentivises local content and assembly, and which is expected to be completed by the end of June.
