Campeys of Selby takes delivery of another seven new DAF XG 450 tractors
Campeys of Selby has purchased 19 New Generation DAF XG 450 FTG 6x2 mid-lift tractor units.
The first seven have already gone on the road, with the rest expected to join the fourth generation North Yorkshire-based predominantly Scania fleet before Christmas.
The new arrivals, the first of which went on the road in mid-October, are returning an average fuel economy of more than 11mpg.
Transport manager Harry Campey said: “We’re really impressed with the DAF XG’s economy. Returning 11mpg straight out of the box is excellent for our operation, and that’s only going to get better once they’re bedded in. The new XG is a big step forward for DAF and the truck is more in line with the type of vehicle we want on our fleet.”
The trucks have been specified with DAF’s Digital Vision System, which replaces traditional rear-view mirrors with cameras and screens. Campey rates the system highly, in particular the Corner View, which replaces the kerbside and front view mirrors. He says the drivers “love the onboard tech”, and reckons “they’re all fighting to get into the new DAF XG”.
Campey adds: “Lead times have been excellent, and we’re delighted with the overall package. That’s why we want more – there’ll be over 30 New Generation DAF XG tractors with us by the end of next year.”
The trucks have been supplied by DAF Dealer, Ford & Slater, with aftersales support coming from Pelican DAF in Normanton, which Campeys has formed a strong partnership with.
