DAF increases Eindhoven production with new electric truck plant

DAF Trucks has built a new facility specifically for the production of its new and expanding range of electric trucks. The new Electric Truck Assembly facility in Eindhoven, will be the production site for the New Generation DAF XD Electric and XF Electric, and is located at DAF Trucks’ main production plant.

Construction of the new plant was completed in just 18-months and the first DAF XD Electric and XF Electric trucks are expected to roll off the assembly line in the spring.

Each new generation electric DAF is based on a glider chassis manufactured on DAF’s main truck production line. The 4x2 and 6x2 tractors and rigids are then completed in an eight-step process on the Electric Truck Assembly production line. The new facility will consist of two assembly lines with battery packs assembled on the sub-assembly line while all high-voltage components, including batteries and driveline, are mounted on the chassis on the main assembly line.

DAF expects production to rise to several thousand vehicles per annum over the next few years, in line with the increasing demand for fully electric trucks.
