DAF pushes HVO at Freight in the City 2019
DAF will be bringing a HVO-fuelled 18-tonne LF skip-loader chassis cab to Freight in the City on 6 November at London’s Alexandra Palace.
DAF claims that HVO (hydro-treated vegetable oil) is a “practical solution for operators who wish to cut C02 emissions without incurring high levels of capital investment or expensive vehicle adaptations”. The Euro-6 LF 230 4x2, DAF states, also meets TfL’s Direct Vision Standards. The same can be said for the rest of the LF range, with every variant achieving either one or two stars, enabling hauliers to operate them within London when the scheme’s introduced after October 2020.
DAF will highlight the fact that its CF and XF are now available with optional, factory-fitted camera systems by Brigade Electronics, too, helping those models to meet the new safety permit requirements.
This includes a near-side camera with driver’s monitor, near-side and front-corner-mounted proximity sensors with audible and visual warnings for the driver, and a left-hand indicator external audible warning for vulnerable road users. These cameras are covered by DAF’s whole vehicle two-year warranty.
DAF will have experts on hand to answer any questions you might have about its electric and hybrid products, like the CF Electric and CF Hybrid, the trials of which are continuing in Germany and the Netherlands with Dutch supermarkets Jumbo and Albert Heijn.
“We’re at Freight in the City with a wide range of solutions for urban operators,” says DAF Trucks’ marketing manager, Phil Moon. While there are no direct financial incentives for using the fuel under current legislation, there are significant improvements in a fleet’s carbon profile, which in today’s climate is appealing to a growing number of fleets’ customers.
Moon claimed hauliers could see “a 90% reduction in CO2 emissions from well-to-wheel” through using HVO, “and it’s available now with no set-up costs, no vehicle modifications and no changes to service intervals – even vehicle warranties remain unaffected”.
“And with the Direct Vision Standard likely to have an impact on a great many operators,” he said, “we can help customers with obtaining their HGV Safety Permit. Our factory-fitted camera and warning solution developed with Brigade Electronics – experts in their field – are Type-Approved and fully compliant with the DVS requirements”.
