Exeter City Council uses Dennis Elites to investigate waste trends

Exeter Elite

Exeter City Council has taken delivery of seven Dennis Eagle Elite 6x2 narrow rear steer RCVs, five of which have been fitted with Terberg’s bin weighing system and OmniDEL electric bin lifts, and Olympus 16 bodies. The electric bin lifts have been spec’d to ensure the council reduces emissions and noise levels.
The weighing equipment was fitted to help the council gain information about its' commercial waste collections, and improve the authority’s efficiency.
The city council’s fleet services manager, Simon Hill, said: “Bin weighing will help us with the tracking of manual handling issues. If we know where and when bins are likely to be heavier, we can manage our resources more efficiently. For instance, garden waste is a very seasonal collection and at times can be very heavy.”
Hill explained that the information will be used to inform Exeter City’s commercial customers about their recycling habits: “This will help them to understand how good they are at recycling and where they can improve. Another positive for our commercial customers, is being able to tell them what happens to their waste. And that is something increasing numbers want to know.”
The Elites were specified with narrow wheelbases so they can tackle Exeter’s old streets, where Hill said, “There’s a lot of reversing to do”.
The new vehicles were supplied by Specialist Fleet Services on a seven-year fleet contract hire agreement.
