Hey Alexa, I'm driving my Volvo!
Most people are aware of the Amazon Alexa voice-activated digital assistant in the home environment. Volvo has become the first manufacturer to integrate the system into a range of trucks. It's already available on a small group of premium cars, mostly American. Now, as of March, Volvo FM, FMX, FH and FH16 models in the UK and Western Europe will be available with Alexa fully integrated into the Driver Interface digital dash system. The application is part of Amazon's Alexa Built-in programme, which adds the functionality of the system to all kinds of devices ranging from wrist watches to heavy trucks.
Alexa gives drivers seamless hands-free access to functions such as placing phone calls, listening to the news, including checking road and traffic conditions, obtaining route directions, and playing content such as music, podcasts and audiobooks.
Access to content on your smartphone is by a Bluetooth wireless connection. Details of costs are yet to be finalised, but we expect them to be incorporated into the audio package option.
Isuzu Central becomes full sales, service and parts dealer for the Isuzu Truck
Isuzu Central, which is part of Allports Group, has been appointed as a full sales, service and parts dealer for Isuzu Truck in the North Midlands, covering Stoke-on-Trent and surrounding areas.
As part of its recent UK dealer expansion programme, Isuzu Central will be representing Isuzu Truck, with the company handling both truck product sales and aftersales service from the Allports Group 4-acre dealer site in Stoke.
“Working closely with the Allports Group, we were keen to raise the profile of Isuzu in this area as an additional and complimentary activity to Allports’ existing business and we look forward to Isuzu Central becoming the first port of call for our truck range in this area,” said Richard Waterworth, head of sales at Isuzu Truck UK.
“This is a really exciting development for us as a company as it enables us to offer a complementary product range to bring to the marketplace,” said Mark Sanders, director at Allports Group. “We will be selling Isuzu trucks from 3.5 tonnes right up to 13.5 tonnes through our established branch in Stoke, and it is our intention to significantly increase the market penetration for Isuzu in our dealer area, as well as providing even higher levels of after sales support to customers.”
