Marigold Health Foods picks Carrier Transicold Iceland unit for quiet, engineless urban deliveries

Marigold Health Foods picks Carrier Transicold Iceland unit

Marigold Health Foods has selected an engineless, quiet refrigeration unit for urban deliveries across Greater London to reduce emissions and noise pollution.

The Carrier Transicold (UK) Iceland refrigeration system, fitted to the firm’s new DAF LF 18-tonne rigid, can run entirely on hydro-electric power generated by the truck’s engine and is capable of providing 100% refrigeration capability at idle speeds.

Operating at sound levels below 60dB(A), and therefore PIEK-compliant, the unit will also help prevent noise distrubances when deliveries are made in residential areas.

“As a major distributor of natural and organic products, improving the sustainability of our logistics operation is of primary importance,” said Joel Clancy, logistics manager, Marigold Health Foods.

“The Iceland system has made an instant and positive impact, reducing our carbon dioxide emissions and making this the quietest truck in our fleet, which reduces the risk of disturbance in residential areas.”

The new DAF marks an expansion to Marigold’s seven-strong fleet and was added to accommodate business growth.

It offers a 15-pallet load capacity, meeting the needs for larger, chilled multi-drop deliveries, and joins a fleet which is 100% Carrier-cooled.

Supplied on a five-year contract from Petit Forestier (UK), it will operate from Marigold’s headquarters in Tottenham and will also be used for the occasional delivery to Oxford, Brighton and the south coast.

Brian Yeardley Continental’s live events business Trucking By has bought seven new Schmitz Cargobull trailers to transport staging and video equipment around the continent.

The Mega box and curtainsider low-ride trailers have reinforced steel corner posts and Schmitz Cargobull’s signature Ferroplast panels.

Brian Yeardley Continental MD Kevin Hopper said: “When we buy from Schmitz Cargobull, we know we are getting a quality trailer that’s built to last and can withstand hard work and, at times, poor road conditions.

"We can be sure what’s on board will arrive in the same condition as it was loaded.”
