UK heavy truck registrations off the pace in first half of 2018
UK heavy truck registrations are more than 11% behind 2017’s at the half way point, according to the latest data from the European Automobile Manufacturers Association (ACEA).
New registrations for trucks 16 tonnes and above were 21.9% lower year-on-year in the UK in June at 3,905 units.
For the six months of 2018, UK registrations within this weight category stand 11.6% lower at 17,604 representing a deteriorating position following May's weakness.
In stark contrast, the EU heavy truck market as a whole was 2.3% ahead year on year in June at 27,580 units. For the first half of the year it stands 3.9% ahead of 2017 at 159,881.
Although van sales have fuelled strong CV registration growth more generally in the EU year to date, the UK van market has seen a decline here too.
Overall the data shows that UK CV registrations are currently down 3.5% on 2017’s corresponding six month performance, at 209,167 new registrations.
