Volvo Used Truck director appointed
Volvo Trucks UK & Ireland has appointed a new used truck director with effect from 1 January. 49-year old Carl White has been promoted from national sales and brand manager, a position he has held since 2014, and which handles in excess of 2,000 used vehicles annually. He will assume responsibility for retailing used trucks under the Volvo Selected, Volvo Approved and Volvo Economy schemes through the Volvo Trucks network of manufacturer and privately owned dealerships, as well as older and higher mileage vehicles through the Ely-based Trade and Export Trucks division.
White’s previous experience in used trucks dates back to 1990 when he joined BRS, before it was acquired by Volvo Group in 1998. White comments “Volvo Used Trucks is an integral part of the business and I’m excited to have this opportunity to lead the team. We have worked incredibly hard to ensure we set the standard for used trucks; from quality of vehicle preparation to manufacturer-backed warranties that are second-to-none. I’m focused on ensuring we maintain these high standards and continue to build on the many added-value benefits we offer our customers.”
White replaces Phil Wilkes, who will continue in a transition support role until the end of March, when he will retire after 23 years with Volvo Group.
Gregory Distribution takes delivery of 30 SDC curtainsiders
Gregory Distribution has placed an order for 30 SDC curtainsiders on contract hire from Hireco. This follows 11 new SDCs taken from Hireco last year on spot hire.
Andrew Chapple, head of fleet, property and procurement at Gregory Distribution, said the new trailers were needed to service increased customer orders including new contract tender wins. “We have been extremely busy throughout 2020 and we have seen opportunities as major companies review their logistics requirements,” he said. Chapple praised Hireco’s approach, and said he looked forward to “building a partnership through a clear demonstration of the back-up service Hireco can provide”.
Andy Graham, sales manager for Hireco, confirmed that this represented Gregory Distribution’s first lease of vehicles from Hireco. “We were able to provide a business solution for Gregory Distribution and move quickly because we had availability of curtainsider trailers to the right specification in our system,” he said.
