ND Young Transport make big savings with new Volvo FH
A new Volvo FH tractor unit is due to save sand and gravel haulier ND Young Transport up to £7,600 in fuel costs.
The recently added Volvo FH 540 6x2 tractor with Globetrotter XL cab is paired with a Fruehauf bulk tipper delivering aggregates across the UK covering around 80,000 miles per year. According to owner Norman Young the nearly 0.9mpg difference between the new ruck and the unit it replaces will contribute to the saving.
“The driver is averaging 8.27 mpg in this new Volvo and he was getting around 7.4 mpg from the 520hp truck he has just come out of. With diesel prices as they are, we’ll save around £7,600 each year in fuel. Obviously, we are delighted with that,” Young explained.
Supplied on a hire purchase agreement through Volvo Financial Services, the new FH joins an 11-strong fleet and where it will be working five days a week.
The unit has been customised by Tor Trucks with a full chassis infill, grille mounted Hella light pod and red and white livery. It also gets Alcoa Dura-Bright alloys.
“We have been using Volvos on and off since 1981. Over the years, we’ve tried most manufacturers but have now made the decision to stick with Volvo moving forward. We put a FM eight-wheeler on the road in November 2020 and that is a super truck, plus the support we have had from the team at Truck and Bus Wales and West in the last couple of years has been nothing short of superb. So, it was quite an easy decision to select Volvo again for this new FH,” Young added.
Volvo Trucks will be exhibiting at Road Transport Expo at NAEC Stoneleigh (30 June to 2 July). Register now for FREE.
VisionTrack returns as BRTC telematics provider
VisionTrack has been confirmed as the official video telematics provider to the British Truck Racing Championship (BTRC) for the second year running.
The company will provide high-quality footage for broadcast of the 20 race trucks competing in the BTRC’s Division One and Division Two.
“We have been incredibly impressed with the quality and reliability of the video telematics solution, so we are delighted to be continuing our partnership with VisionTrack this year,” explained Steve Thomas of race organisers Truck Sport UK.
“Last season, the vehicle camera system proved to be invaluable to the race officials, while providing a new dimension to our broadcast and promotional activities,” Thomas added.
VisionTrack has upgraded the video telematics for this year’s event, using its VT3000 AI dashcams along with a rear-view camera. Race officials will now be able to access a substream feed that can download footage within seconds to speed-up in-race investigations. This will work alongside livestream video from each truck that assists with the management of on/off track race compliance, while HD video will also be available during and post-race for livestream broadcasting, media clips and a TV highlights programme.
Mark Turner, sporting manager of British Automobile Racing Club Limited said: “As the motorsport industry continues to evolve, it is paramount that officials are provided with the information needed to make the right decisions. The VisionTrack solution puts our officials in complete control of what footage they want and allows them to quickly assess on track incidents. The combination of forward and rear facing cameras for all the trucks competing in the BRTC ensures they get the best angles in a timeframe that allows decisions to be made in the heat of the race day.”
