Road Transport Expo 2022: Hiab to bring load handling expertise to life at new industry show

Hiab is looking forward to welcoming visitors at this week’s Road Transport Expo, which takes place from 30 June to 2 July at NAEC Stoneleigh.

Attendees are invited to enjoy some first-class hospitality at the Hiab stand where they can learn about the company’s smart and sustainable load handling solutions including EFFER, MULTILIFT Hookloaders, FUTURA Skiploaders, HIAB loader cranes, frameworks equipment, and MOFFETT forklifts trucks.

There will also be a MOFFET demo, a Ride and Drive Area, plus a VR experience that will showcase Hiab’s digital expertise and allow attendees to get involved.

Road Transport Expo will also host this year’s UK qualifying for the Hiab World Crane Championships.

Designed to celebrate the expertise of the world’s top crane operators, the popular event sees contestants from different countries compete at local level, before heading to the global final at the IAA Transportation fair in Hanover on 24-25 September.

Using a custom-built track, new for 2022, operators will demonstrate their skills and precision at maximum speed around eight obstacles arranged in a set sequence. The operator with the shortest time needed – including any penalties – wins the competition. Open to all companies, the winner will receive prizes adding up to a value of 25,000 euros.

Ian Mitchell, Hiab UK and Ireland’s director of sales & service, said: “The Hiab UK team is looking forward to attending the Road Transport Expo to meet some potential customers and old faces.

“It’s also great to finally be able to welcome back the WCC. We are expecting to see an exciting event where the best of the best compete for legendary status!

“We want to find the UK’s finest operator to represent us on the global stage and hopefully go for the win. If you think you have what it takes, then please register to attend.”

To join in with all of the action over the three days, all you need to do is register online for your free ticket and find Hiab on stand RB61.

For the World Crane Championships head over to the outside Cranes & Materials Handling Zone to see live demonstrations and practice heats taking place on Thursday and Friday, with the live final taking place on Saturday 2nd July.

DAF XD and Merc LongHaul eActros to be shown at IAA

DAF and Mercedes-Benz have already confirmed what will be amongst their new vehicles on display at the upcoming IAA commercial vehicle show in Hannover and released two teaser images of the new trucks.

DAF’s star attraction will be the new DAF XD, their distrubtion truck replacement for the current CF. Using the same platform as the XF, XG and XG+, the XD is said to be “Fully prepared for zero emission drivelines” and will be available alongside the CF when production is planned to start in the Autumn.

DAF says the new model has a larger windscreen and side windows with an ultra-low belt- line to give it best in class levels of visibility. That will be on top of getting DAF Corner View and DAF Digital Camera Systems. The new XD will be equipped with the range of Paccar MX-11 engines and has been redesigned with new cab and rear axle suspension to improve the ride quality.

Mercedes has also confirmed it plans to unveil its battery-electric eActros LongHaul long-distance truck which is said to be “a preview of the design theme of the series-production vehicle”.

First prototypes of the LongHaul are already undergoing tests as the vehicles edges closer to a final production model that is set to be on the road by 2024. The truck is said to have a range of around 500km from a single charge and will be equipped with high-performance ‘megawatt” charging where the batteries can be charged from 20% to 80% in under 30 minutes.
