Sally 'Traffic' Boazman wins Driver Choice Award

Sally 'Traffic' Boazman has beaten all the satellite navigation systems on the market to win the Truck & Driver/Iveco Stralis Driver Choice Award for Best Traffic Information.

The BBC Radio 2 traffic news presenter was delighted with the news and bragged about her achievement live on air with Chris Evans.

It was a clean sweep for Aunty Beeb in the 'Best DJ/Radio Show' category, with Terry Wogan taking the top spot. The veteran star's 'Wake up to Wogan' show narrowly beat controversial presenter Chris Moyles into second place.

The UK's favourite motorway, according to readers of Truck & Driver, is the M6 (aka the 'Backbone of Britain'). Not surprisingly, it was the most northerly sections that had the most appeal, with Junction 37 getting the most votes. The M62 came a close second, and the M40 was third.

P&O picked up the title of 'Best Ferry Operator', with an impressive 60% of the vote. Readers were impressed with the frequency of its sailings, its good time keeping, and decent quality of food. Norfolk Line took second position, while third place was shared between Brittany Ferries and SeaFrance.

The next four Truck & Driver/Iveco Stralis Driver Choice Awards (Best Driving Song, Best Newspaper, Best Truckstop and Best Breakfast) will be announced in September's Truck & Driver (in the shops on 6 August).

Free Next of Kin card for lorry drivers

The Professional Drivers' Foundation (PDF) is offering every UK truck driver a free next-of-kin (NoK) card.

The PDF, formed primarily for the welfare of lorry drivers, is urging truckers to carry the laminated card in their wallets at all times. It enables the emergency services to quickly contact loved ones in the event of a serious road traffic accident.

Supply the PDF with your own name and address and the phone number of the person you wish to be contacted in case of an emergency and it will laminate the NoK card for you. Failing that, you'll be sent a blank card to fill out and laminate yourself. The PDF says it would appreciate a small donation for laminating, "but this isn't compulsory".

Contact the PDF at 8 Cheltenham Road East, Gloucester, GL3 1AE, or call Pat Nicholson on 07909 995615, weekdays between 0800 and 1800. Alternatively, email pdaf@pdafund.org
