Archbold Logistics has purchased 16 new DAF XF 480 6x2 tractor units which, it hopes, will help the company achieve a 0.5mpg increase.

The vehicles have been spec’d with Super Space Cabs, mid-lifting and steering axles, fridges, and double bunks, while the first of the 16 to arrive has been painted in a livery commemorating the firm’s centenary.

Archbold’s MD, Alan Maher, said: “DAF engaged with us in a big way, and they allowed us into their factory in Lancashire to see how they operate. We have and still run Scanias, but their purchase price has risen.”

The XFs have been “accepted by the drivers and their reaction has been good,” said Maher, who explained that “the new trucks have been achieving between 10.2 and 10.5mpg whereas the others are in the high 9s.”

The DAFs have been tasked with towing Archbold’s 140 new Lawrence David pillar-less trailers which have replaced 120 Montracon trailers.
