Ilford-based Best UK Transport has purchased a Mercedes-Benz Econic 3235 L tridem, the second Econic on its three-truck fleet.

The concrete mixer is fitted with an 8cu m Schwing Stetter drum, and is finished in the livery of customer Hanson UK. It will work out of the company’s depot in Dagenham, Essex, delivering to construction sites throughout London.

Owner-driver Andrei Balean, who also runs a 68-plate Econic with a McPhee mixer body, and a used Arocs 8x4 tipper, cited the Econic’s fantastic visibilit as one of the key reasons for the purchase.

He said: “With the addition of a 360-degree camera system this Econic is the safest, most compliant vehicle available, and effectively future-proofs my business against any tightening of regulations that might be coming down the line.

“It’s also great to drive, the low seating position and wide field of vision making the job of negotiating busy city streets much less stressful. As an all-round package the Econic is unbeatable for this role.”

The truck achieves the highest five-star Direct Vision Standard rating from Transport for London.

Safety features include Active Brake Assist 5 emergency braking technology, which has pedestrian recognition capability, and an Electronic Parking Brake that is applied automatically when the engine is switched off.

Balean also praises the manoeuvrability from the tridem configuration, and rear-steer axle.

The truck, which was acquired from the Peterborough branch of dealer Intercounty Truck & Van, is covered by a three-year/160,000 km warranty.

Best UK Transport, which was established by Balean in 2011, has FORS silver accreditation.
