Waste management firm Cawleys has added the first Mercedes-Benz Antos to its 16-strong fleet.

The 26-tonne Antos, fitted with a ClassicSpace M-cab, replaces an Econic on the fleet.

According to Cawleys, the Antos is better suited to the longer distances and fewer stops involved in its commercial waste collection operation.

With a 7.7-litre engine that generates 320hp, the truck is fitted with a Heil Powerlink compactor body, and will collect waste from businesses across the Home Counties and London.

The vehicle was supplied by the Milton Keynes branch of Northgate Truck and Van on a five-year repair and maintenance contract with Mercedes-Benz.

Head of waste collection Phil Gudgeon said: “The truck has been extremely well received by our drivers and the early indications are that it will be significantly more fuel efficient than its predecessor.

“This is important because as well as reducing our operating costs, it is helping to minimise the impact of our business on the environment.”

Gudgeon added that he was confident Mercedes was the right manufacturer for Cawleys's fleet.

He said: “We spoke to other operators in our industry before placing our order, and it’s clear that Mercedes-Benz trucks have an excellent reputation for reliability, which will be crucial if we’re to deliver a service on which our customers can depend.”
