Chiltern Cold Storage bought itself a handsome 25th birthday present, in the form of a limited edition Mercedes-Benz Actros1.
Choosing an all-silver finish to commemorate the silver anniversary, the truck is one of just 100 Actros1 models being built.
It was supplied by East Anglia's Orwell Truck and Van.
While the truck has been assigned to long-serving driver Wojciech Pospiech, Chiltern founder and MD Paul Jackson took the Actros out for a spin all the way to Valencia to put it through its paces.
The result, he said, was "stunning", and described the Actros1 as "a fantastic looking truck which is exceptionally comfortable and offers huge reserves of power, yet still returned a very acceptable 9 mpg.”
“Whenever I buy a new piece of equipment I like to try it for myself and this truck certainly lived up to its billing on the run back from Spain, as it’s a real pleasure to drive," he said.
Jackson added: “The Actros1 is a lot more powerful than the vehicles I usually buy,” he said. “But its launch coincided nicely with our own anniversary and I’ve maintained a great relationship over the years with Orwell Truck & Van, so I decided to go for it."
The 625hp Actros1 is based on a 6x2 Actros chassis and has a GigaSpace cab along with a 15.6L engine.
Chiltern Cold Storage added a 20-inch television screen and a coffee maker, as well as top and bottom Kelsa light bars.
Driver Pospiech will use the Actros1 on regular runs to and from Naples and Milan.
