Leeds-based Clipper Logistics has added 26 S-WAY tractors and 63 Eurocargo 18-tonners to its 500-strong predominantly Iveco fleet.
The S-WAYs are all 6x2 tractors, powered by the 460hp 11.1-litre Cursor 11 engine. Specification includes 7in touchscreen infotainment systems with TomTom LIVE navigation, plus Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, air-suspended passenger seats and independent night heaters and fridges.
“We had brilliant feedback from the demonstrators we trialled and those drivers already in the new trucks absolutely love them,” says Clipper’s transport operations director Mick Doe. “They say it’s the first time that they feel a vehicle has properly been designed having taken them into account. That is key for us, in a world where there is a shortage of drivers. We need to do everything we can to look after this valuable team resource and maximise their efficiency.”
The 250hp Eurocargo box vans are equipped with sleeper cabs, 28ft BWS bodies and 1.5-tonne Dhollandia tuck-away tail lifts. They have factory-fitted lower windows in their passenger doors, helping to achieve a one star rating in the London Direct Vision Standard.
Supplied by Northern Commercials, the new arrivals will be run on operating leases, with R&M packages for the duration of the contracts. In the case of the S-WAYs, which will cover 170,000km per annum, this is three years. The rigids will cover 130,000km and are supplied on five-year contracts.
